GASTON, LINDEMUTH, SHANNON AND JOINER VICTORIOUS ON JULY 24 AT THUNDER MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY

With lightning in the distance, Thunder Mountain returned to action besting Mother Nature one more time in the 2009 season battle. Skip Lindemuth picked up his first Super Stock win in over 2 seasons while Matt Gaston (Steel Block Late Models), Kyle Shannon (Pure Stocks) and Jason Joiner (Thunderbolt Enduros) returned to Horizon Homes victory lane. Bruce Jr. and Abby took home bikes from IMPACT Designs and Horner Wildlife Taxidermy Studio after winning the Kids’ Sign Design contest.

　

Brandon Connor had his first Super Stock feature win firmly in his grasp as he took the lead from the pole. Connor lead with pressure from Skip Lindemuth for most of the 20 lap event with Jim Handyside following the lead duo. Connor crossed the 2 laps to go flags before coasting to a stop down the back stretch, handing Lindemuth the lead and eventual win. Handyside crossed the line 2nd with Tim Bish, Jamie Barber and Phil Uplinger following. 6th through 10th went to Tim Adamson, Steve Barnes, Brandon Connor, Gary Luzier, and Denny Draisma. Heat winners were Fuzzy Fields and Lindemuth.

　

Matt Gaston followed Steel Block late Model leader Chris Clark until Clark washed high in turn 2 on lap 10 which allowed Gaston to grab the top spot. Luke Hoffner also slipped by a recovering Clark before stopping on the track a lap later ending his night. Gaston was strong out front and cruised to another feature win. Doug Updyke had his best finish in 2nd ahead of Clark, Jerry Redden and Bill Davis. Chuck Kennedy, Bruce Raybuck, Rick Maxim, Bob McMillen, and Bob Smith rounded out the top 10. Jake Shady and Gaston picked up heat race wins.

　

Kyle Shannon extended his Pure Stock points lead by grabbing another feature win. Shannon had to hold off Steve Matko for the distance and through lapped traffic at the finish. Brian Rhed won the race long battle for 3rd over Bruce Hartzfeld as Ray Hickok came from last to 5th at the pay window. The remainder of the top 10 were Josh Fields, Nathan Yeaney, Jim Gullace, Jason Young, and Zach Gustafson. Rhed and Matko were preliminary winners.

　

Jason Joiner made repairs from a hard hit the previous race to return to victory lane after his latest Thunderbolt Enduro feature win. Joiner took the lead from John Miller on lap 3, but Miller hung with Joiner for the rest of the way. Joiner was not to be denied as he crossed the finish ahead of Miller, Chuck White, Jamey lee and Randy Holliday. The bottom half of the top 10 were Randy Rickard, Ryan Kemmer, Cory Silvis, Chad Greeley and Wayne Terwillinger. White, Joiner and Kemmer took home heat race wins.

　

The next event on the 2009 schedule will be the 3rd of 3 appearances of the season for the 410 sprint cars. The sprints will be joined by a regular show of Steel Block Late Models, Super Stocks, Pure Stocks, and Thunderbolt Enduros on Health Source Chiropractic Trophy Night. The HSC staff will be on hand to give free massages and answer questions prior to the racing action. Gates open at 5:00 with sprint hot laps at 7:00 and heats commencing at 7:30. The TMS Kids Club will hold Powers Wheels/Peddle Big Wheels drag races at intermission.
