ERIC BAUN, NATE SMITH, MATT GASTON, AND AARON HILL MIX NEW WINNERS WITH VICTORY LANE REGULARS AT THUNDER MOUNTAIN SPEEDWAY

After 2 straight rain outs, the cars were back eager to racing at Thunder Mountain Speedway. Eric Baun grabbed his 2nd Super Stock feature win while newcomer Nate Smith took home his first pure stock feature win. Matt Gaston continues to roll with his 3rd straight Late Model win with Aaron Hill turning his season debut into his first Thunderbolt Enduro victory.

Dom Surra and Tim Bish lead the season high 21-car Super Stock field to the green with Surra taking the lead. A multi car pile up in turn 3 negated the initial start. Eric Baun took 2nd from Bish at the restart and grabbed the lead on lap 5. Surra, Bish, Fuzzy Fields and Skip Lindemuth kept the top 5 close during the early stage of the race. A late caution for Gary Luzier on lap 15 gave the field one last chance at wrestling the lead from Baun, but Baun held off a fast closing Bish at the checkers. Fields, Lindemuth, and Bobby Connor completed the top 5 while Surra, Jamie Price, Chad Obrien, Brian Rhed, and Luzier rounded out the top 10. Fields, Price, and Bobby Connor captured heat race wins.

Nate Smith’s inaugural Pure Stock start was a memorable one as he used his pole starting spot to lead flag to flag for his first feature win. Shawn Lindemuth started 2nd and was running 2nd until Kyle Shannon took the spot on lap 3. Bryan Small was moving forward until heading to the pits on lap 8. As the laps winded down, Shannon caught Smith and was all over the leader before slipping off the back stretch with 1 lap to go. Shannon again closed the gap, but Smith held off the defending track champion. Shannon settled for 2nd ahead of Mike Calhoun, Lindemuth, and Jason Young. Lori Weaver, Small, Steve Arthurs, and Zach Gustafson completed the field. Calhoun and Small were heat race winners.

Front row starters Dwayne Brooks and Bill Davis were joined by 3rd starter Luke Hoffner as they treated the fans to a terrific battle starting the Late Model feature. Davis lead the first 7 laps before Brooks took the lead on lap 8. Matt Gaston was marching forward and joined the top 3 on lap 12. Hoffner and Gaston used opposite lines as they contested the runner up spot with Brooks leading. Gaston moved to 2nd on lap 18 and took the lead on lap 21 as Hoffner coasted to a stop in turn 4 with a flat tire. When racing resumed, Gaston had Brooks in tow as the early leader gave the defending champion plenty of pressure as laps clicked off. Gaston had a little breathing room by the drop of the checkers as Brooks had a solid 2nd. Davis was 3rd with Jake Shady and Jason Witherite 4th and 5th. Denny Fenton, Rick Maxim, John Brady, Brian Molnar, and Hoffner rounded out the top 10. Brady and Gaston claimed the heat races.

Dan Bish and Randy Holliday paced the Thunderbolt Enduro field to starter Tom Mott’s green with Bish taking the point. Shawn Hadden moved to 2nd before bringing out the caution on lap 2. Hadden pitted and called it a night. John Miller was in 2nd behind Bish for the restart, then Ryan Kemmer and Aaron Hill both went by for the top 2 spots. Kemmer lead until lap 5 before Hill took over out front. Kemmer had his hands full with Miller as Hill maintained his lead. Miller got by Kemmer on lap 10 while Chad Greeley took 4th from Cory Silvis the same lap. Out front, Hill went on to win his first of the season in his first race of the season. Miller, Kemmer, Greely and Silvis made up the top 5 as Jacob Kline, Doug Surra, Bish, Mike Fields, and Chris Arnold. Greeley and Hill earned heat race wins.
