Mike Eberl Memorial - Friday August 20, 2010!

Mike talking with Track Promoter Audie Geer

On Friday August 20th Thunder Mountain Speedway will celebrate the life of a wonderfully, outstanding man, when the Mike Eberl Memorial rolls off. This event is a Make -A- Wish race and Thunder Mountain Speedway will attempt to raise enough money to pay for 2 children’s wishes in the name of Mike Eberl. “This is the best way I know how to commemorate Mike, he meant so much to all of us and to make a child’s wish come true in Mike's name is a fitting way for him to be remembered” said speedway owner Audie Geer.

Mike had been a part of the racing family for many years as a fan, crewman, driver and then probably the role that gained him the most notoriety; photography and videography. Mike was one of the first people you would see arriving at the racetrack and usually also one of the last to leave. He could be seen walking through the pits with his yellow envelopes and when he spotted someone the he was looking for would hand them an envelope and say “I thought you might like these.” What most don't know is that long before Mike picked up his bag and jacket to head to the track he was fixture in the shop of his good friend and neighbor Bobby McMillen waxing Bob's late model in preparation for the coming weeks action.

Mike Eberl gave his heart and soul to our great sport and loved every second of it. Mike often said to me that “as long as your at the racetrack, it can't be a bad day.” One of Mike's final activities was to attend a local racing banquet doing what was he loved to do.

While we may no longer be in Mike’s viewfinder, he will always be in our hearts.

General admission is $10 while Pit Passes will be $20. Steel Block Late Model driver registration is $30 with all of the procedes going to Make-A-Wish.
